Good News asked:

I don’t own any books at all and i’m wanting to start reading. I’m not sure what will interest me, i like history, culture, politics, war, and things relating to the mafia. Judging on what films i like, again things to do with the mafia and organised crime, based on films like Scarface, Carlitos Way, The Godfather 1,2,3, Casino, etc, which are my favourites.

So does anyone have any books they can suggest to me?
I live in Germany and don’t speak German to a very good degree, thus going to a library is out of my limits

Is there any way to enhance intuition?

pachl@sbcglobal.net asked:

Occasionally I have flashes of true intuition. I know what’s going to happen. For example, I recently had a Halloween party. I had the feeling from the very day I booked the bartender that he would end up cancelling, even though I had no direct contact with him; our mutual friend booked him. He worked the party last year, had a great time, and asked to work any future parties. However, I was certain he would cancel last minute. He did.

Occasionally in the casino I will have the strong feeling a certain number will come up. Last night I nailed the very first number I played. On my second bet, I bet on two numbers, just one space apart from each other. Guess what? The number inbetween came up!

One night four out of five roulette spins landed on the number immediately next to the one I chose. Hence, I am thinking about concentrating on the number I envision, and then betting also on the two numbers on either side of it.

Any way to hone one’s powers of intuition, or is just totally out of our control? I have been certain of intuitive powers ever since I went to a casino for the first time. I watched the wheel spin, and almost as if I had already lived that moment before, was certain the number five would come up. I would have bet every dime in my wallet; I didn’t just “think” it would come up, I was dead certain. My face turned beet red, and I desperately wanted to place my bet, but circumstances prevented that. And yes…. number five came up.
To “Earth…:”: I’ll check out that dream journal, but my dreams are either the most incredibly mundane or the craziest. Usually, I don’t remember my dreams. However, I remember some of the real boring ones, such as: I went to the store, and bought a lemon. How is that for boring? On the flip side, some of my dreams are really quirky. Maybe I can focus on those
to Eri: Of course what you say about the confirmation effect could be true in many circumstances, but the case I cited about #5 on the roulette wheel was something else. Usually I have no idea what’s going to come up!!! However, sometimes I have a strong feeling, but the ball often ends up right next to my number. One night the number immediately next to mine came up four out of five times IN A ROW.

What are my rights in this credit card and third party legal issue?

Alan S asked:

As a frequent casino gambler within the Harrah’s casino network, I reserved what I was told would be a complimentary room at the Harrah’s Cherokee property. I was told that because the casino’s hotel was booked, I could only get a room at a nearby sister property, which I accepted.

When I arrived at the hotel, I was told that I was only on their list for a reduced rate room and would have to pay $45.00. Being that it was very late at night and I had no other choice, I paid it. When I got home, I called Harrah’s to complain. They checked the tape recording of the call and told me that I was correct and was promised the complimentary room. What happened was that my room offer was only for Sunday-Thursday and my request was for a Friday, and I really wasn’t supposed to get a complimentary room, but since it was promised to me by mistake I was entitled to it and would get a refund on my credit card.

After a month I haven’t received the credit, so I called Harrah’s again, and they seem to be screwing around with me. They said I was left a message that I was told that it wasn’t complimentary, but the message was left on my home phone. I was over 600 miles from home and don’t check my messages that frequently, and the message was left only a few hours before my arrival after I had already driven some distance out of my way.

I am hoping they will resolve this tomorrow – if not I will file a dispute on my credit card. I am just wondering whether the fact that I was billed by a third party (the sister hotel) is an issue, when the party that is trying to cheat me is Harrah’s. The sister hotel most likely gets reimbursed by Harrah’s, so if they aren’t issuing the refund because Harrah’s won’t reimburse them, they are being caught in the middle. My questions are:

1) Assuming that this wasn’t paid for on a credit card, would the sister hotel (not owned by Harrah’s) be liable to refund my money, even if it wasn’t their fault, on the grounds of an agency business relationship? Or would my only recourse be against Harrah’s because they were the ones who misled me?
2) Being that I paid by credit card, would my claim for a refund from the sister hotel be valid even if they weren’t at fault and otherwise I could not make a claim against them?

“All My Children” airs it’s 10,000th episode next week. Which, when you think about it, is kind of insane. 10,000 hours of television!? The great part about it is that since it’s only a new day in Pine Valley after every 8 or 9 episodes, it’s totally still 1982 on the show.

Anyway, the show celebrates in style with Agnes Nixon, the show’s legendary creator, making an appearance as “Aggie,” a mysterious and quite wise woman who totes around a book called “All My Children.” Hmm & Look for the special episode to air on Wednesday.

But just because the show hits a milestone doesn’t mean the routine wackiness ends. In Puerto Rico, Ryan, Greenlee and Aidan (Cameron Mathison, Rebecca Budig and Aiden Turner) continue on the trail of Annie (Melissa Claire Egan), with Aidan getting knocked out by one of the kidnappers. Amidst all this, the character of Di returns. Remember her? She’s Dixie’s sister and JR’s (Jacob Young) aunt. Kelli Giddish is not returning to the role, which kind of sucks, but them’s the breaks. Anyway, Di gets all up in this mess. But why — perhaps she’s Emma’s kidnapper? There’s another big twist coming in this story that happens early next week.
Back in Pine Valley, David (Vincent Irizarry) starts sleeping with Amanda (Chrishell Stouse) which is disturbing on many levels, but mostly because it’s so twisted and evil. He’s only playing her, and it’s sort of easy considering she spends half the week drunk. He basically manipulates her into trying to take down JR using her feminine wiles. Which is a phrase we want to come back.

Angie (Debbi Morgan) finally FINALLY lets it rip to Jesse (Darnell Williams) about Rebecca. Debbi Morgan, not surprisingly, rocks the scenes.

Taylor and Jake (Beth Ehlers and Ricky Paull Goldin) go from 0 to 60 in their relationship. He motivates her to try to walk, so much so that she’s planning for a marathon. They get all kissy and lovey. Observing all this from afar is Brot, Taylor’s presumed dead fiance who is now burned on over 40% of his body. Poor Brot (JR Martinez) is aching for Taylor, but doesn’t want to disrupt her life. What’s a love torn “I’m not really dead” ex to do? Fall down the stairs! What’s with people falling down the stairs on this show?
All this plus: Adam and Erica (David Canary and Susan Lucci) become roomies, Reese (Tamara Braun) reveals a secret, Pete (Daniel Kennedy) seeks Adam’s advice on women, and Bianca (Eden Riegel) needs Jo Frost, stat.
