The book is about a group of young mid 1960′s mathematicians/phicisists who develop software & build a computing device to beat the roulette wheel in casinos in Vegas etc.They embarked on this scientific adventure from a ‘hippy’ outlook and persued their endeavours over a number of years ending with scientific and personal acedemic success, and some monetary gain. I think that one of these west-coast college drop-outs ended up a founder of the Hewlett Packard Corp

go back to the library and ask for a print out of what books you have borrowed. it should be there somewhere

HP goes to Vegas ?, but seriously maybe go back to the library, they have more than likely got your take out and bring back on record, and I am pretty sure the librarian could tell you,

No, but if you remember or find out, let me know – sounds interesting.

Hi,
I think that sounds a lot like “The Eudaemonic Pie” by Thomas Bass.
Have a look at
and
.
Also see and Thomas Bass’ official homepage;
Hope that’s the one! If it’s not, I’d try the “ask the library for a list of my books I’ve taken out” approach, as mentioned by the others.
Regards

I don’t know what the book is called, but just recently on Challenge TV they had a program on there, in their “Scam” serious about those very people when they proved the device worked they stopped.

a similar book would be ‘Bringing Down the House: How Six Students Took Vegas for Millions’ by Ben Mezrich.
same sort of tale, but centres around blackjack – its a good read!
