Howzit asked:

Just wondering if it’s still possible to count cards or is it impossible to do with double decks and casinos shuffling after every hand? Is there some other system people are using these days?

Anyone know any good books to learn a blackjack system?

What portion of the gaming industry is operated by Organized Crime?

Bugsy Siegel helped to build up Las Vegas. The mob has always had it’s dirty fingers in the numbers, booking, racketeering and all forms of gambling.
Didn’t the former governor of Rhode Island get into legal problems involving gambling? Is he still in prison? What “family” up on Federal Hill is he associated with?
The state governments will give consumers this snow job about how the Native American tribes are managing the casinos. That is just lip service. The gambling is controlled by organized crime. Isn’t it?

Dave asked:

Yesterday I played at an Indian Casino. Table limits were $5-500. I have read many books on blackjack. I never read anything like I saw. When I arrived at the table (3rd base) a lady was playing 3 hands at $500. She had about $2300 in black chips, 500 in green and 75 in red chips.
She ended up losing everything, and going into her purse for about $1200 more.

So any thoughts on multiple hands?
It looks like she did not have the recommended amount of money to weather the storm (80X your bets).

Here is what happenned.
Dealer shows a 6. Player to my right has 3+2. (he does not hit believing that he will get a 10 and the dealers bust card)
I stand with18.
Dealer has a 5, and draws a 10 for 21.

The girl losses $1500 and says the person should have hit the 5.
Shouldn’t you just play your cards regardless of others bets?

Cosplay asked:

Plan on getting into Blackjack, specifically at the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa, FL so if you know about that place and tips on it, I especially want to hear from you, and would like to learn some tips, hints, etc. to get a heads up on it. Always like to gain as much knowledge as possible before getting into something I like and/or am serious about.

I’m not going in desperately trying to earn money or spending my last dime on this effort. More of a hobby to get into really. I will only be bringing what I don’t mind losing but I do plan on winning. Could use some extra income. Are there any books I should read or sites I should go to first to play or learn from? Are there good days, bad days? I keep seeing tips on “Splitting” when have certain cards. What does that mean?
Any tips and info will be much appreciated. Thank you all for reading and answering. Good luck to all as I know we all could use some extra help. Take care.

Poker – Trying to find a real game?

E.W. asked:

I recently took up a large interest in poker (primarily Hold’em) and would love to find some real games that went around. I’ve plowed through three poker books (including Brunson’s Super System) and have been playing a ridiculous amount online.

I do have some problems with online poker. 1. Not only is it incredibly difficult to spot tells or betting patterns because people shuffle tables so often, but the games seem so non-personal that I get bored way more quickly. It’s not that I start to dislike poker (not at all), but rather that I want to interact with others when doing so.

I keep reading about “finding local games” and things of that sort, but I have no idea where to even begin finding these. I live in Florida (nowhere near a casino that I know of, and besides, casinos are ‘eh’ to me) so I don’t have Atlantic City or Vegas or anything like that. I would be far more into a home game or a regular game place.

Does anybody have any suggestions or do I have to hope to get lucky and meet someone who happens to run a weekly poker game?

I want to play poker professionally help me get started? ?

I’m 17 and I was introduced to poker at the age of 15. During that summer I had lost $80 playing with my friends. I found it really fun and started to get into. I started watching poker on TV all the time and have started to get better. When I was 16 I decided that there wasn’t anything in this world that I would like to do more than play poker professionally. Today I go to school wearing poker shirts(please don’t laugh lol) and when people ask me why I wear them everyday I say, I love poker, I’m gonna go pro. Some say I’m dumb others believe in me but I know that I will be a pro no matter what anyone says. I plan to watch all the episodes of Poker After Dark (IMO best to learn from) and I will read poker books as well as practice online. I’m gonna play every bit of free time I get a chance and hopefully by 21 I will be ready to play at a casino.

Can someone give me tips on getting started at casinos. How do comp points work. If I play at $1/$2 for around 12 hours a day will I have enough comp points to pay for the hotel? If you have any advice please tell me. Thanks!

Blackjack question – How do you feel about splitting eights (8-8) against a dealer ace, ten, or 9?

kyle evans asked:

I know all about how every book says you should split your eights. And I know all the reasons why (you might get a 2 or 3 for a double down opportunity, having a 16 is terrible against any hand, having eights puts you in a much better spot, and all that stuff). But I tell ya, at the casino every time I watch somebody split their eights against a dealer ace, ten, or 9…..I almost always see them get fried.

I’m just a college student that likes to go throw down 40 or 50 dollars every here and there……so I find that too swingy for my bankroll. Against those types of hands I usually just hit it hoping for a small card.

I was just curious to hear other peoples’ opinions on splitting eights and how it has worked for them in the long run. I know it will save you money in the long run, but just at this point I prefer not to get frisky.
To Legfujoh: Ok I guess that I really like yahoo answers as somewhat of a forum where I feel like I’m opening up discussions and getting answers that change the way I think at the table. I usually know the answers….but I like generating discussion so I can learn more about Why I should do something and generate different opinions from different people. Like I said, this place is like a forum to me and I enjoy it.

Hot 21 Dealers and Cold 21 Dealers?

Filed under: Gambling — admin @ 12:34 am

Ranger4402 asked:

I am reading the book Casino Confidential. It was allegedly written by a pit boss under the pen name Anonymous.

He asserts there are 21 dealers who without cheating win a nice share of money from the players and there are dealers who lose a good share of house money to the players.

How is that possible without cheating the players of defrauding the casino? If a deck of cards is randomly shuffled then it makes no difference which casino dealer deals that deck or shoe. The cards will come out in the order they were shuffled. If the shuffle produces a hot deck for the players then that has nothing to do with who is dealing.
