Mindy joy asked:

so i work in a casino in las vegas i am non union and i have been there about 3 years. I have been having a ton of issues at work lately and im starting to just become depressed and stressed to the point i cant think straight, as of now my department is at the very minimum of workers we are so short staffed that calling in now is like the end of the world,if one person calls in we are short and the supervisor has to be in position and breaks are basically impossible to get done but my manager knows how many employees he has and he chose to keep the minimum and we have a point system which you can have up to five points you get 2 for calling in, saturday i called in i left a message saying ‘hey this is mindy im not going to be able to make it in tomorrow thank you bye’ im pretty sure in the last 3 yrs i have left that same message at least once. when i got to work sunday my morning supervisor didn’t say a word to me which is normal i saw my points on the desk went to sign them and it said in proper call in, so i didn’t sign it tell i talked to my super to see what was in proper about it, well i had forgot to talk to her and she never once said a thing to me and my night supervisor came in and she is the main supervisor and i asked her about it when i went in the office to ask a question i saw the points and brought it up, come to find out im getting points and written up, that shocked me and so i accepted that i did a in proper call in and the next night i wrote my comment on the write up saying”i did call in saying this is mindy i wont be able to make it in tomorrow and i i assumed since i had the points to call in i was safe to do so without a full explanation” the day had been stressful because we were short staffed and were late closing and i forgot to sign after my comment it was a honest mistake..i didn’t know until today that i didn’t sign though..i was working today and it was so busy and my co worker has been having to do his job plus help me because clark county(the ppl who make sure we are doing everything according tot he book and safely for guest) showed up last wk and i was running more rides then i am supposed to my supervisor told me to and he made it clear 2 ppl have to be present since we are short that’s why we are all doing twice the amount of work we should be doing and its making work stressful!! so my manager came to the office well i was working i saw him go in and he left didn’t look at me or ask to talk to me and 2Min’s later my supervisor who is some other place calls and says the manager said you didn’t sign your write up, that’s so irritating that he didn’t tell me when he was standing there!!! he tells my supervisor everything he wants to tell me then she relays the message..its impossible to be happy if my own manager cant take time to talk to me..i made a honest mistake and now i look like im defying him all because he doesn’t give me the time of day!!! i want to go to h.r and tell them i got a write up and i accept it and learned from my mistake but i feel that my manager is going hard on me and making it impossible to talk one on one..and that due to our short staff my small mistakes look huge such as calling in when i have the points to, it just looks bad cause we have no back up but i just want to formally let them know im not intentionally trying to do these things and i have tons going on and i am letting them know my departments condition and its starting to run us all into the ground..is this stupid of me? or what? i would tell my manager but he never talks to me i have to tell some1 to tell him. i was thinking of writing him a letter apologizing for our misunderstandings and mis communication..but im not sure..but i think i should talk to h.r in case future things happening..whats the best Choice?
lol how about you come to my job and handle it for me haha

twbw asked:

I’ve been in the I.T. industry as support for over 15 years, and this may or may not be justified but I need to know that.

I’m currently a level 2 tech at a hotel and casino, which requires I know and support / troubleshoot and in some situations write for IBM as/400(and all of the hotel, entertainment, payroll, ordering and credit card processing that runs on two of those 400′s.)

I am also support for the guests wireless system, from the physical implementation to helping the guests fix numerous problems with their personal computers.

I am unofficially the webmaster and web developer and have integrated entertainment ticket sales online along with a custom geo tracking system with complete database of 3 million IP ranges to compare to target marketing for zip code radius. Develop flash advertising for the website and provide support for the cms system and its database.
I’ve had to develop and support a webcam that watches and pans the building 24/7.

I have to provide support to the casino’s player tracking and slot tracking systems and their sql backends.
I have been given the task of integrating a new cinema content delivery server and setting that up along with all the network for 6 projectors and the server, from pulling cable to instructing the theater staff on how to use the frontend and being made the first response support for that system.

I am now being asked to integrate airline packages into the website that will allow for reservations to be booked online.

For all this I’m having to use sql, flash, vb.net, as400 cl, unix, networking, low voltage wiring, all the windows server applications, domain control and user administration for all the casino and countless other skills that I feel any other company would hire 5 people to do the jobs I’m doing.

I’ve been working here for 3 years and am the last person hired in the department but I find myself training the rest of the department on how to do their jobs, and I make about 1/4 what the rest of the people in the department do, yet I have more experience, and I give 100% all the time. I’m expected to work doubles and overnights and be on call 24/7 with my hours to adjusted so that overtime isn’t incurred, where the rest of the department is not expected to have to do this.

I have been the company’s employee of the year my first year working here.

I also do all this without gripe, until today.
I make 14 dollars an hour. I support my wife who cannot work and I’m tired of just barley making it.
What do you think I should be making? Is the grass greener anywhere else?

Flame on if you think I’m just crying, but I feel like what I’m doing is worth considerable more, even in the present state of the economy, and especially since I’m generating revenue.
To specify, this isn’t a normal hotel scenario, it is a large casino 3000+ employees, everything in the casino from the front desk to the cash registers at the bars to slot machines reading every coin drop are run though databases that are ultimately in my realm of responsibility(not to mention that I have to personally audit those logs every week for Nevada gaming and PCI compliance reasons.), We have a sizable data-center and our network situation is complicated at its best, each of the databases have to intersect each other cross platform and every new web app that I write is more and more involved in querying data from a minimum of three databases. As some have mentioned the 400 is an older system but still used by a large portion of las Vegas casinos. And I don’t think DB2 will every fully die. Thank you for the answers so far, as they are proving to me to I need to either man up and begin a dialog about my wages, or look for work elsewhere.
To fill a few more holes, I do have certifications, and a degree in MIS/CIS
The as/400′s were using are actually m25 power 5+. With i5 os. (2008 model I think)

gamblingsucks asked:

I am stupid for deciding to become a casino dealer when I was 21 years old. I started out working in the casino cage making $9 hour thinking to myself this will never get me anywhere I need to make more money than this. I began to talk with dealers that worked there and they told me this is a great job you make great money for playing games all day. I was naive I was seeing dollar signs before my own happiness and began to go to school for it

2 months later I got my first dealing job at the Claridge making approximately $15.50 tips and $4.00 base. Things were ok I seemed to like it for a while. BUT this business began to rear its ugly head. Mandatory Holidays and Weekends, Unfair Callout Point Systems, Aggressive Supervisors, NO benefits ( work 40 hours and they still call you part time) NO chance for promotion (When youre hired for part time dealer, thats pretty much all you will be for as long as you work there) Bad Schedules with different time starts and different days off every
week, and the last thing I began to see the ugly side of being human with the dirtiest most dispicable people you never though existed. Ive had my life threatened a few times and have had drinks thrown on me and been yelled at a billion times.

Ive been fired for not smiling enough and for not having a promotional button on my dealer shirt at some casinos others I left to go to more higher paying rates Right now I work at Caesars Tonight I got called by my pitboss for a one on one meeting about my “spotlights” Spotlights are basically where you are evaluated by your supervisor every single day you go to work. Basically they are looking to see if you make eye contact woth customer smile say hi etc, etc, etc. Ive been feeling sick allday long and expressed to him that and his reply was I dont care. He gave me a zero across the board and I actually threw up right there with the meeting between me and him. There is no sympathy they wanted me to sign after I threw up THEN I could go the
nurse.

I need help SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO BADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. I am only 27 years old and today the work nurse informed me that if I keep at this job my blood pressure will get worse and worse. Its ashame this job makes me work 4- 5 days a week but wont give me benefits

Im willing to change careers ASAP I just wished I stayed in College. I need to make a minimum of $500 a week but my real interests are in Real Estate Appraisal, Bartender as a temporary job till Im done real Estate Appraisal, Personal Trainer and more. What are some really good jobs for people who didnt go to college? What should I do I need to leave this job ASAP and wouldnt mind cutting it down to 2 days a week but I need will also need a good money maker job if I do it like that. MY grammar is horrible I know but if anyone can suggest to me the best plan of action to take I am all ears

Thanks,
Mike
