roger v asked:

I have a vacation for free to the new hilton on the strip but I am starting to hear it is at the north part of the strip and close to nothing. I want to have fun, and not have to be a mile from a casino. When I booked my trip I booked a hotel and got it for free pretty much, it was way cheaper to book with hotel and airfare. I have the choice to stay at the plaza hotel or the new hilton on the strip. One is a suite, the other is a small one room hotel room. What should I do, or what do you think I should do, I am leaving in 2 days!!!!

  1. Check priceline.com; I was able to rent a car for 10.00/day or check out hotels.com and take a virtual tour of where you want to stay…

  2. I have been to Vegas several times and cannot think of where the Plaza Hotel is. If it is on the main part of the Strip and you would rather go there, then do so. But there is a bus that runs up and down the Strip all day and night for $2.00, so it’s not as if you’ll be stranded if you are not on the main part of the Strip. Also, if you are farther north, you will be closer to Fremont Street, which is the older, historical part of Vegas. It also has hotels and casinos, but the flavor is a little different from the newer part, and they have a cool light show at night. Every time I have been to Fremont Street I have had a ball.
Regardless of where you end up staying, you will end up walking (or driving or riding) the length of the Strip if you want to see all of the sights, so it doesn’t matter all that much where your room is. You’re really only going to use it as somewhere to keep your clothes as crash for the few hours of sleep you will get. Have a great time!

  3. the Plaza is in Downtown… about 10 miles from strip…
a smaller hotel… there are alot of things to do and see Fremont St Experience, other casinos, also cheap food.

the Hilton is north strip by the convention center and is connected to the monorail which travels to all the way to south strip. also trams and buses run all the time…
there are tons of things to do close by…

the Hilton would be the better choice

  4. The Hilton Grand Vacations club is the only Hilton on the strip and yes, it’s a distance off to the top casinos but not too far from the Sahara and Circus Circus.

    Here’s a Map of the Strip:,+Las+Vegas,+Nevada,+USA&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title

There’ll be a necessity for Taxi or Bus transportation – or use the monorail, if you are visiting for gambling. However, if you received a great deal – why not just make the best of it? The Hilton doesn’t sound all that bad – there isn’t a Casino in it, but the amenities sound great. I’m sure you’ll be happy there.

If you really want to be near a casino – Call Harrah’s and see what kind of deal they have right now – use your “well I have a room but might consider the move if the deal is right” card. Don’t let them see you sweat!!

Check with Priceline, although it’s a bit late, you’ll probably do best direct to the hotels themselves. Luxor usually has some pretty good deals, as does the Excalibur. (I’m really trying to think of the least expensive ones out there.)

Here’s a little tip to help you out, when you come to Las Vegas and If you gamble, and gamble you will, based on your question. Please sign up for the Casino Club Card – and use it to your advantage to swing your room deal.

  5. Stay at at the Hilton. The monorail is right behind it. That will take you as far down the strip as you need to go. You can buy a multi-day pass and save money. The better(cheaper) casino’s are up around the Hilton anyway. Try the Sahara or Stratosphere. They have $3 blackjack tables. You can’t find anything less than $10 farther south. This hotel will be fine. Don’t worry about the location. It is just fine.

  6. Just definately stay at the Hilton and just use the monorail. It’s cheap, easy, fast, it’s all you need. I’d never stay downtown, I won’t even go down there again….too many bums and cheap junk there for me.

  7. The Hilton is not “new”, they probably just said that to advertise their recent renovations. It IS a very good hotel and I’ve stayed there several times. It is way at the north end of the Strip, but has a monorail station so you can get all the way down the Strip with multiple stops. Or, the Strip trolley leaves every 15 minutes from the Hilton (in back) and stops at all major casinos.
The Plaza, which I’ve also stayed at several times, is very different. It’s Downtown, which is a few (not 10 as someone said) miles farther north. It isn’t in the same league with the Hilton; it’s old and a little shabby, but an excellent value. It’s on the famous Fremont Street, which has the advantage of being walkable and cozy. But you have to get back to the Strip by way of the Deuce bus or taxi. All the great sightseeing is on the Strip, and Downtown is more for people on a budget. Or who, like me, have seen everything on the Strip already.

  8. Most people don’t know taht there are TWO Hilton Hotel in Vegas!!!
One is the old one (was the INTERNATIONAL HOTEL in the 60′s) (2 blocks from the Strip) which the monorail stops.

The one you actually have a freebee is the HILTON VACATION RESORTS, which is part time share condos, and is basically accross the Sahara Hotel (end of the Strip). Opened only a couple yrs., so it is brand new.

    The Plaza is Downtown.
