I’m talking about the one James Bond came up with in Casino Royale. He called it a Vepyr. Also did it exist before the movie/book came out?

A Vesper, and no, Ian Fleming made it up for the book.

As far as I know VESPER was created through the fiction of Ian Fleming. The original was supposed to have “Kina Lillet”, which no longer exists under this name. There is a white Lillet and a red Lillet.
Lillet has a taste of a wine -well, it is wine as a matter of fact -just like Martini is a wine. I am not a wine expert, so I cannot tell you too much about the process etc. of how Lillet is made.
Anyway, about the drink itself. I have re-created it during the last New Year’s Eve.
I thought it would taste a little bit better… so I got slightly disappointed after tasting it. It is a very strong alcoholic drink (just look at the percentages of vodka and Gordon’s)…
According to me, the most important part for this drink is too keep it cold. Forget about room-temperature. I have experimented with the entire recipe a little bit and after I added fresh lemon juice, the drink tasted better.
In the end, I think that iced Lillet with lemon is the best
