When i say look at a blackjack guide, i’m talking about the basic strategy of when to hit, stand, double hit, double stay, split and so on, like the one you can find here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackjack halfway down the page
No they do not allow you to look at anything but they do have tables for you to sit at and learn the game. Just for practice and they will tell you what to do

If it’s just a basic strategy guide, yes, they even sell them at the casino gift shops.
If it’s a book about counting, they consider that cheating and might bar you.
ETA: Not “cheating” in the technical sense (that’s a crime in Nevada), but “something they won’t tolerate you doing at the tables and will throw you out if you try it.”

I don’t know of any that will NOT allow you to look at the basic strategy chart! The guy that says they won’t has no clue. You can find a free chart at

A simple basic strategy card should be okay. Books are probably not though.

as long as it stays in your hand .. some won’t let you lay it on the table..
the card that is.. they will not allow a book about card counting at the table
the basic card your talking about is allowed for you to use..

You can get a small, credit-card size Basic Strategy card in the casino gift shops.
Also, they do NOT consider counting as “cheating.”

sure, as a matter of fact you could ask the dealer if you should hit or stand. according to the odds they will give you the correct answer every time. then they will say can I have the waitress get you a free alcoholic beverage
